Shevaughn Robinson, the Heroine in the Deck of Cardz Series

Detective Robinson is a Black woman in her early 30s. We first meet her in Ace of Hearts. After years on the force, she easily passes the civil service exam and the Police Department can’t deny her the title of Detective.

As the first Black female homicide detective in Portsborough, NY, she faces constant scrutiny and subtle racism. It’s 1981 and Shevaughn has to keep her ‘game face on’ at all times while being mindful of those who are waiting for her to slip up and confirm that a woman ‘shouldn’t try to do a man’s job!’

She’s determined to prove them wrong.
